균형 / balance
시간을 깎아내며
시간을 붙잡으려 했다.
그러나 어느 순간 알게 된다. 내가 시간을 잡는 것이 아니라,
오히려 시간이 나를 스쳐 지나가며 조용히 자신의 결을 새기고 있다는 것을.
하늘은 늘 같은 자리에 있지만
한 번도 같은 색으로 머문 적이 없다.
공기는 보이지 않지만
빛과 바람의 떨림으로 끊임없이 흔들린다.
나는 그 흔들림을 덧칠한다.
한 겹의 하늘 위에 또 하나의 하늘을 올리고,
사라지는 빛 위에 다시 빛을 쌓는다.
시간은 그렇게 색이 되고, 색은 다시 층이 되어 쌓여간다.
그리고 어느 순간,
마지막 하늘빛이 내려앉은 순간
나는 그 모든 것을 거꾸로 되돌리기 시작한다
깎는다.
벗겨낸다.
지워진다고 생각했던 자리에서 오히려 시간이 모습을 드러낸다.
층과 층 사이에 잠들어 있던 계절이 보이고, 빛이 지나간 자리가 보이고,
바람이 머물렀던 흔적이 보인다.
깎여 나온 단면들은 시간이 남긴 상처이자 주름이고,
지나간 순간들이 눌러놓고 간 지층이다.
나는 색으로 그리지만
결국 칼로 시간을 읽는다.
채워 넣기 위해서가 아니라,
지워내기 위해 쌓아 올린다.
그래서 이 작업은 그림이면서도 조각이다.
표면을 만드는 일이 아니라
표면 아래 숨어 있던
시간을 꺼내는 일이기 때문이다.
내가 깎아내는 것은
색이 아니라 시간이고,
드러나는 것은 표면이 아니라
이 순간까지 움직여 온
하늘의 숨결이다.

cutting down on time
I tried to catch the time.
But at some point, I find out. I’m not setting the time,
Rather, it is that time passes by me and quietly engraves its own texture.
The sky is always in the same place
I’ve never stayed the same color.
I can’t see the air
It is constantly shaken by the tremors of light and wind.
I paint the shake over.
Another sky is raised above a layer of sky,
It builds up light again on the disappearing light.
Time becomes color like that, and color builds up in layers again.
And at some point,
The last time the sky fell
I start to turn it all around.
I’m going to peel it.
Peel it off.
Time rather reveals itself in the place where it was thought to be erased.
I see the season of sleep between the layers, and I see the place where the light has passed,
There are signs that the wind stayed.
The cut-off sections are wounds and wrinkles left by time,
It is a stratum where past moments have been pressed.
I draw with colors
In the end, I read the time with a knife.
It’s not to fill in,
Pile it up to erase it.
So this work is both a painting and a sculpture.
It’s not about making surfaces
It was hidden beneath the surface
Because it’s about taking time out.
What I’m cutting off is
It’s not color, it’s time,
It’s not the surface that’s revealed
I’ve been moving up until this moment
It’s the breath of the sky.
